Reflecting on BSides Joburg 2025
BSides Joburg 2025, held on 26 July at the Focus Rooms, was a resounding success! The event brought together cybersecurity enthusiasts, professionals, and researchers for a day of insightful discussions and skill-building. The conference featured two tracks of incredible talks from the community, covering a diverse range of topics including abusing presigned URLs in AWS, phishing, lessons from incident response, securing Entra ID, network threat intelligence, HSMs amongst others. Thank you to everyone who joined us – we look forward to making BSides Joburg even bigger and better in the future!
Theme: Light The Way
The theme “Light the Way” represents the role that individuals and communities play in illuminating the path forward in an increasingly complex digital world. In cybersecurity and technology, progress often comes from those willing to shine a light on hidden risks, emerging threats, and new opportunities. When uncertainty and confusion create darkness, it is the insight, experience, and curiosity of the community that provides the light needed to move forward. Whether it’s guiding others toward better practices, exposing dangers before they cause harm, or sharing knowledge that strengthens the ecosystem, this theme celebrates those who step forward to help others navigate the unknown.
